Mathematics is a very complicated subject that requires a ton of abstraction, practice and problem solving. Math is especially challenging for many students. This is because students practice doing certain types of problems, but in math exams students encounter completely different problems – and they are often thrown off guard.
Math is all about the application of knowledge, and it is very rare that full marks will be given for memorising formulae. There will always be some kind of abstract question where students will need to reason (and often grit their teeth) as they try to come up with a reasonable solution to, often, an unreasonable problem.
Tutoring for VCE Math
Math tutors not only can guide students help them understand fundamental mathematical concepts, but they can also help them to think like a mathematician. This is a very important skill when solving math problems.
It is important to be able to take a big convoluted problem, and break it down into its constituents. You need to be able to accurately find needed data and mathematical method, and ignore all of the trifles surrounding the problem. This is an important skill and often needs to be taught by math tutors.
